Independence Comes From Earning a Paycheck...
Workforce Development services provide education, training, and job skills so individuals with disabilities or other barriers can become employed.
The Workforce Development staff identifies skills, assesses needs, advises, trains and educates for job readiness and job placement.
Goodwill also offers Retention services and Life Skills classes as well as computer training, resume development and internships to prepare people for work.
Referrals to the Goodwill Workforce Development programs are made through the Department of Job and Family Services and The Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation.

This department is the heart of Goodwill’s mission. The Goodwill staff helps people help themselves by giving them the tools to succeed in the work place and to become independent by earning a paycheck.

Work Assessment
Individuals participate in an assessment that focuses on work habits such as productivity, work attitude, punctually, willingness to learn, and reliability.

Work Adjustment
Individuals participate in a program of counseling and training to help develop work habits and attitudes required for competitive employment. Each program is individually designed based on the outcome of their work assessment.
Job Readiness and Placement
Goodwill’s Placement Specialist’s assist individuals in obtaining employment; which includes classroom instruction, resume preparation, interview techniques, and application completion along with post-employment support.

Community Work Experience
Individuals at temporary community–based job sites. Emphasis is on developing an understanding of the realistic work demands found in competitive employment.
Computer Tutoring
Goodwill offers individualized computer training for consumers in the following computer programs: Word, Internet, e-mail, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. For information on the Computer Tutoring Program, please contact the V.P. of Workforce Development, (330) 264-1300 ext. 239.
Job Coaching Services
Job trainers work side-by-side with individuals at community-based job sites teaching specific job skills and appropriate work behaviors for success on the job. Job trainers gradually fade services until individuals are able to perform job tasks independently.
Transitional Employment
Program that provides employment to individuals who can function productively within the support of transitional environment.
Work First Training Program
Goodwill’s Work First Training Program helps transition people to financial stability and rewarding careers. For eligible TANF recipients, participation in this program provides on-the-job training for the purpose of increasing the participant’s professional skills and employability. This program also provides assistance in developing vocational and educational goals, identifying and eliminating barriers to employment, and other support services.
Referrals
Goodwill works with a variety of individuals such as seniors, those getting off of welfare or coming out of a correctional facility, people with physical or mental disabilities, and many more individuals who may have a difficult time re-entering the workforce.

Life Skills Program
Goodwill Industries’ Life and Work Skills Program helps strengthen families by providing bi-weekly modules that teach skills critical to success in life and work. Twenty- three Life Skills modules, plus additional classes addressing budgeting, daycare, drug/alcohol, depression, and support/resources, are the core of the curriculum offered in this program.
High School Diploma Program
Goodwill offers High School Tutoring for it's consumers. Individuals committing to this program receive tutoring sessions for classes needed to fulfill high school requirements.
Upon completion, students receive a fully credited diploma from the American School in Illinois. For information on the High School Diploma Program, please contact the V.P. of Administration, (330) 264-1300, ext. 222.
Goodwill offers unpaid internship opportunities for consumers in the following areas: Reception, Marketing, Accounting, and IT. The program is meant to assist the intern in developing meaningful work experiences that will help them get a job.
